Max Factor made a name for himself as a high-glamour makeup artist in Hollywood. He began a small line of perfumes and cosmetics in conjunction with the St. Louis World Fair in 1904 and made innovative business decisions that allowed his company to take off.

During the early era of motion picture films, Max began working on a makeup formula that would hold up under the heavy lighting of the movies. He was finally successful in 1937 when Max Factor released the first solid pancake foundation for actors and actresses. Max died a year later, but his brand has upheld his innovative and forward-thinking spirit.
